This is a great exercise for any home: imagine decorating your existing space first on a small budget (as most of us do!) and then on an ideal budget. Although the end results of each will look very different, both can look fabulous in their own way, just like these two design visuals for the same space by Boris Alexandrov.
An oversized chess set along with a massive letter A indicate that this is a space for fun. Nothing is so wonderful as waking up to a sunny room and crisp white sheets. By creating contrast with light flooring and dark cabinetry, this space becomes a bit mysterious and a lot mod. The artwork in this home is on display and easy to spot amid the black and white decor. Two Douglas fir flooring styles in two separate homes, each featuring hanging light fixtures and minimalist modern furnishings.
To begin with a neutral palette, like this creamy sofa and rug ensemble, we can see that the series of swatches across the canvass picks up not only the paler hues, but works through the spectrum to tie in every shade right through to the black accent cushions. Of course, your wall art doesn’t have to appear as a spectrum, but look for pieces that work all the way though your color story, from light to dark.
